I want to mention 2-3 interesting points in the article called “Marked Woman”. First one is about chromosomes since until these years I learned that two Y chromosomes determined the sex which person become male or female. However in this article YY chromosome does not do anything. Moreover another thing which interests me is that Mrs and Miss issue. Before I read this article I have thought it is a bad thing for woman a marked by married or not. Also women do not have to announce everybody being married or not. Woman can use her surname although she is married. Thanks to Turkish legislation woman can use also their surnames. It should like this because everybody knows you with your name and surname. It is the same thing with changing your initial name with another name after 30 years :)

  1. I was also interested in surnames which is related with being marked in this article. But although women have rights to use their surname after their marriage it doesn't give them opportunity to be unmarked. It is so sad to know that:(

  2. Actually Meltem, I can comment on this because I recently got married in Turkey. The options are this: You can take your husband's name only, or you can keep your surname and ADD your husband's surname. There is no opportunity to keep your own name. I was very angry indeed to find this out when I was filling out the paperwork at the evlendirme dairesi.
