7. Killing Us Softly

http://english.orange021.com/upload/thumb/fotoPariOpp_1.jpg

In turkey advertisements usually are not based on sexualise maybe because of moral issues. There can be woman in advertisement but not like the advertisements America doing. Woman usually looks very thin and teenagers also want to be like them. Thus, in order to not put on weigh they have eating disorder called
anorexia nervosa. I remember this ill from Mary Kate Olsen from the news. Not only woman like be thin they also want to be have large breast because they wants endear to men. Also magazines force women by mentioning ways for endearing men or men likes what so women started to apply these things. Even they do not avoid having a surgery. Usually advertisement putting on television especially there is a woman who doing housework, cooking or dealing with their children. Why there is not any man figure in these advertisements? Since many people see housework associated with woman. However we can see man in advertisements of car because car issue interests men. I do not know who determine the advertisement man or woman act on which types of advertisement but I can make guess. I think this begins with the childhood. Since children’s toys are determined with their gender. Boys usually not played with dolls and girls are usually not played with cars. Generally this affects their duties when they grow up.
One interesting thing is women and men shown differently in advertisements. Women shown as vulnurable, passive or just smiling wheares men show thier masculanity by looking more strong, more aggressive. This starts with very early ages little boys or little girls do the same thing as well girls hands’ over her mouth.I have not noticed that until Jean Kilbourne talked about this issue.

6.Mask and Toy

In the previous week we watched a film called “Tough Guise”. When I first saw the title of film I thought guise might be mean plural of guy. However it means appearance of something intended to deceive. It really good title because one part of the film Mark McGuire shown as crying and this show us men also can be vulnerable. Also shows men in real life situation when their mask is removed.

Another think which I found interesting is toys appearance. I didn’t know toys appearance can be changed these changes can be visible. To illustrate Barbie became thinner whereas boys’ toys arms became stronger and thick. I have realised that Barbie changed when I compared to my Barbies but these changes only contains their faces. (I think they look ugly :) because their head become bigger.) However in this film shows toys changed radically. This is done in order to influence children. This appearance supported by media because it shows thin models in magazines and strongest man especially in the films as a good thing. Since children started to imitate this toys and want to be seen like them. Thus, girls started to do diet and boys want to go gym. We can understand that how media influence both children and toys.

5. what I have learned so far?

When I quickly think what I learned from this course so far there are many things come up with my mind. I have already known how to do in text citation in prep class however doing citation in APA format it is totally new concept for me. Recently I learn a new thing in today’s lesson class was citation have to be used for images. It is very easy but it is take a little time to prepare references. Lastly I want to mention about our blogs. This concept also new for me. I have never use blog until that year. It is a bit challenge to write every week but I gradually realise its benefits in terms of improvements in my writing skills.

4. Are these people crazy?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NkfWkJGyOI

I want to share this video to illustrate how reality tv shows become terrible :S

I have never understood how these people do such things although they can earn millions.

Also I could not believe how they eat spiders whereas I can hardly watch them. They abase themselves eating unknown things. I want to point out another view of its effects in terms of contestant’s relations between their colleagues. Their colleagues might recognize him as what they saw in TV and they judge them differently. In addition to this contestant’s children see their mother father as eating insects and they want to imitate them. Of course not only contestant’s children in danger this result also affect audience’s children.

3.Paparazzi

While I was reading Patricia Holland article is about photography the term “paparazzi” caught my eye .Since this term is still popular and media also talk about this issue I want to mention about it. As Patricia Holland says when famous people want to be on view, photographers behave unadulterated publicist create alluring and flattering images however when famous people do not want to be taken photo or want to be private, photographer turn out to be invasive stalkers and they do not leave them until they can take a picture.

I know that paparazzi’s duty is taking photo of celebrities but sometimes they go over the limit. They ask questions again and again or they sometimes follow them until celebrities get in their houses. Paparazzi’s continue the same behaviour until they be slapped by celebrities. However maybe they wait for this to make an interesting news .Such as ‘blabla who is celebrities slapped our publicist.’ But when they prepare this news they do not think what they did do to make these people angry. Princes Diana died while she was escaping paparazzi, maybe they do not want to consider themselves as responsible for this accident.
